In the late 40s thru early 60s, new home constructions boomed across American suburbs to accommodate the burgeoning Post-World War II economy and the resulting multiplying  family unit. It is no surprise then that what was popular during this time as a standard option, namely square tiles (typically 4”x4”), can still be found in many of today’s homes that boast their original porcelain tile. In contemporary homes and newer builds, on the other hand, the hot shape in flooring tile is now the rectangle – which means that many of today’s homeowners are updating their bathrooms and kitchens. Larger, rectangular tiles are on the way in for a fresher, more current appearance.

You don't have to wait to think renovating until your roof caves in. But if you've begun to store your stuff on the floor or the teens are singing for their own space, then renovating to accommodate lifestyle change now makes perfect sense. It's an ongoing process - Bit at a time.

People renovate for all sorts of reasons but most of us would prefer to put it off until we simply have to. Call it being in denial. What we're really afraid of is the domino effect — you change one thing and it impacts on another, then another... What begins as a minor alteration can end up a major nightmare. We choose instead to jump in the car, drive to the local hardware store or storage shop and come home with yet another bookcase, tin of Spackle or can of paint. Spending money on temporary solutions to on-going problems is a bit silly really and is certainly not cost-efficient.
